Oh, the sun feels so guuuuuuudddd!!

This summer I visited my family in Jamaica so I decided to photograph and document the ones that are closest to me. All of these photographs bring memories from the summer. I visited many places like the beach, my great-grandmother's abode on the mountain top, and the nearby church. I mainly tried to focus on portraits :)

Goals/Fav Photo

My goals for this year involves creating a magneficent portfolio, graduating from MKHS, and getting into one of the many colleges in Florida :)

I'm willing to try differnet approaches to do something that the average mind doesn't think of. This is one of my favorite photos. I want to have a portfolio filled with photots with good contrast just like this one.

Concentration

The main focus of my concentration involves capturing the beauty of the people who are closest to me. I’ve found portraits to be my strongest skill and I’ve tried to photograph the people who I love the most in the most natural light. Lighting plays a big role in my concentration as well. In most pictures, the sun beams on the subject really hard to create a white background and give the subject a stronger look. I’m trying to incorporate both portraits and lighting together to make the photographs stand out. I was inspired by Sally Mann, who takes photos of her children and her husband because they are closest to her and they are the most beautiful and easiest photographs to capture rather than trying to illustrate a stranger. My concentration was first explored by my choice to specifically photograph at dusk because that is when the sun beams intensely. In a few of my photographs, like “Black/White Face” and “Curious Georgetta”, there is strong lighting and contrast from the sun’s beam surrounding the subjects that it gives the photos an intensified look. There is also this effect that tends to blur out the background, whether white or black, and the focus on the subject becomes more apparent. Aside from that, my idea is produced from experimentation and something extraordinary is produced. The idea is repeated throughout my portfolio and hopefully, with this proposal, I can build a successful concentration.

Julia Cox Photographer Critique

As I have researched Julia, I feel as though I know her as I would know a close friend. From her personality traits which I have learned, I can say that we are the same type of indivisual. Julia is the daughter of a teacher, whose aide I am, Mrs. Cox. Since her mother has told me EVERYTHING that she knows about Julia, I love Julia. This is how I picture my future as I succeed throughout high school and start a career involving photography.
