Concentration #2
With the use of digital manipulation and an insecure person, I created pieces that exaggerates a specific body part that a person may be insecure about. Through the use of black or white backgrounds, I set a tone for each image that exemplifies whether that person approved how they look. Using a light background, I am trying to convey a lighter tone which exemplifies the small percentage of people who are proud of how they look. The darker background represents the insecure people. The American society has always set a standard for the way people should look, feel, and dress through propaganda and celebrities. However, not everyone is created to look the same and because they don’t get this popular image, they feel as though something on their body is too big, or too small. My concentration has made me come to a sudden realization that everyone has their own unique appearance. Statistics show that women are mostly affected by magazines that use scrawny models and they become insecure over issues such as being fat. They look at one picture in a magazine and it sends them into a tailspin. For example in image 6, there is a girl who is angered by how big her thighs and buttocks are. She's has taken the action of trying to lose weight but she never loses any in that specific area. She hates the extra attention she gets and how everyone at school calls her "big booty Samantha". My idea involves exaggerating the insecurity, so in this case, I made her buttocks look like what she saw when she looked in the mirror. Some people are troubled by the extra attention that people give them, which in this case is the main cause of the insecurity. I believe that everyone should be happy with themselves because we were not created to look exactly the same.

Oh, the sun feels so guuuuuuudddd!!
This summer I visited my family in Jamaica so I decided to photograph and document the ones that are closest to me. All of these photographs bring memories from the summer. I visited many places like the beach, my great-grandmother's abode on the mountain top, and the nearby church. I mainly tried to focus on portraits :)

Goals/Fav Photo
My goals for this year involves creating a magneficent portfolio, graduating from MKHS, and getting into one of the many colleges in Florida :)
I'm willing to try differnet approaches to do something that the average mind doesn't think of. This is one of my favorite photos. I want to have a portfolio filled with photots with good contrast just like this one.

Concentration
The main focus of my concentration involves capturing the beauty of the people who are closest to me. I’ve found portraits to be my strongest skill and I’ve tried to photograph the people who I love the most in the most natural light. Lighting plays a big role in my concentration as well. In most pictures, the sun beams on the subject really hard to create a white background and give the subject a stronger look. I’m trying to incorporate both portraits and lighting together to make the photographs stand out. I was inspired by Sally Mann, who takes photos of her children and her husband because they are closest to her and they are the most beautiful and easiest photographs to capture rather than trying to illustrate a stranger. My concentration was first explored by my choice to specifically photograph at dusk because that is when the sun beams intensely. In a few of my photographs, like “Black/White Face” and “Curious Georgetta”, there is strong lighting and contrast from the sun’s beam surrounding the subjects that it gives the photos an intensified look. There is also this effect that tends to blur out the background, whether white or black, and the focus on the subject becomes more apparent. Aside from that, my idea is produced from experimentation and something extraordinary is produced. The idea is repeated throughout my portfolio and hopefully, with this proposal, I can build a successful concentration.
